the valentine's card

ok...so its not a typical valentines card...but it was all I could manage this afternoon...
The colours didn't look like I expected after scanning the original...but I guess it will have to do.
I had wanted to try and do one after the "valentines thread" started on the illustrators forum.
So here it is.

Other news: finished the "coat shop" illustration...and guess what: I don't like it. Its ok and all but....It just doesn't feel right. The compostion is ok, the colours are ok...I don't know why its not what I want....I think I'll take a day off illustration tomorrow to write, so I can look at it with fresh eyes on Friday...

I am not liking anything I do lately....I hope this phase is over soon as its driving me up the wall!!

I LOVE your Valentine's card - I'm generally quite keen on things with lots of explanatory labels.

Ah yes, and can the dog be friends with some of the strange creatures on my blog?

Thanks guys for your nice comments....I am not liking anything I do lately, so I raided a bookstore and just came home with a bunch of books I bought for reference hoping to see if I can fix whatever is happening (or to be precise NOT happening)...

I am putting my rainbow coloured hat on! :)

This is wonderful Maya! And very funny. It had me chuckling. Do you think that you aren't liking anything you've been doing because you are getting used to your style and it doesn't look as fresh in your eyes anymore, compared to the first few paintings? I think this is just as wonderful as everything else that you do.
I find that if I spend a long time on a visual (i.e. a day) with a few changes then I get bored of the painting before I've even finished it- you've just got to look at it with new eyes in a few days- then you'll see how amazingly talented you are.

:o)

HI lorna :)
May be you are right...maybe I am getting a little tired of looking at my work...
grrr...I really don't know whats the matter with me lately...I spend hours on something only in the end to be disappointed by the result.
Its became a vicious circle.
Oh well...tomorrow is another day, and I bought a lot of white paper that needs to be used or it will just go mouldy...lol

Hi Maya
I think your Valentine card is great. I love the unique humour in your illustrations.

I know what you mean about being disappointed by the results of illustrations. But it's all in our heads, we're our worst critics. I tend not to want to look at my work straight after its finished. But when I come back to them after a few weeks, I can almost, nearly, just about, sometimes, tolerate them.

Hi Chris!!Great to see you here!
:)
I agree we are our worst critics...
I got to remember my work is not to be a critic but to just get the illustrations done...

Guys...sorry for whining all the time lately ...I have been going through a depressive phase the past days (months??)...Promise not to be grumpy anymore!!

x
Maya

You don't need to apologise Maya. These blogs are a good way of clarifying and expressing to ourselves how we feel. It's a privilege to be able to share the innermost thinking of like-minded people such as you.

No one can be up all the time.
